Persistence

by Krista Johnson

“Studies indicate that the one quality all successful people have is persistence. They’re willing to spend more time accomplishing a task and to persevere in the face of many difficult odds. There’s a very positive relationship between people’s ability to accomplish any task and the time they’re willing to spend on it.” –Dr. Joyce  Brothers

Definition of Persistence:
continuity: the property of a continuous and connected period of time; continuing or repeating behavior.
Synonyms:   continuance, continuity, continuum, duration, endurance, persistency

It is clear that the #1 quality in a successful person is persistence. In order to reach your goal and accomplish what you have set out  to do, you must take a consistent action in order to succeed. This is the biggest downfall in many people is not being consistent and staying in the race to reach that finish  line.

If you have never weight-trained before and you walk into our gym, chances are you will not be able to lay down and bench press 200lbs. But, if you are persistent and stick to a schedule and consistently weight-train, you will become stronger and get closer to your goal  of 200lbs with each visit.  It isn’t something that will happen overnight,  it will take time, hard work and persistence.

Now, when you set off on your journey to a new and  improved you, you WILL run into obstacles in the way. These annoying roadblocks seem to jump out of nowhere in an attempt to stop or slow down your progress. The enemy does not want us to succeed and will do everything  possible to stop you. These obstacles are inevitable.  In fact, if we didn’t have them, every single person in this world would be successful. What you have to do is recognize the obstacles and work through them.  If you find little or no obstacles along the way, then there is a really good chance you are not challenging yourself and your pace towards your goal is snail speed.

Did you know that most successful people have had more “failures” than successes?  A persistent person never gives up. The more they stumble and fall, the more they get right back up and get going again.  I can tell you right now that bringing Fit By Faith to pass has not  been an easy journey, filled with obstacles and is like climbing a very steep  mountain most of the time, but with each reach, with each step up, we become stronger, more successful and get closer to the top and push everyone up right  along with us!

Did you know Walt Disney was turned down 302 times before he received financing for his huge success? Colonel Sanders spent two years driving across the US looking for restaurants to buy his recipe!  He was turned down 1009 times!  Now how many people would have given up after  just a couple rejections?  A couple bad days?  Needless to say, it takes hard work and persistence to get there.  Anything that comes easy, is not going to bring you anything but failure.

You must constantly be re-evaluating your circumstances and your approach in how you are reaching your goal.  Don’t be persistent at something you are doing incorrectly! Sometimes you have to modify your  pproach along the way. Every time you do something, learn from it and then find a better way to do it next time.  It is like when someone first comes to my Tae Bo class, and feels so lost on how to do the moves.  By being persistent, doing their best, modifying movements as needed…they continually improve class after class.

Today is the day to begin your journey, modify your  journey or continue on, using consistency and persistency, towards tomorrow’s  successes and all the while being a wonderful example to others!
xoxo
