Tell me if this sounds familiar…you wake up, step on the scale and are met with a number that just doesn’t sit well with you. So, what do you do?

“I shouldn’t have eaten xyz last night” or “you’re such a fat ass” or “you are worthless.”

THEN, you start devising a plan to get back to whatever number on the scale will make you feel “worthy.” This wonderful plan usually consists of committing to hours of cardio everyday and eating like a bird.

Yeah, tell me how long THAT lasts? What usually happens is we become MORE miserable, and end up doing the one thing we don’t want to do…overeat. It’s a vicious cycle. The more you beat yourself up, deprive yourself and tell yourself you suck, the more you wanna scarf down a pizza.

This is why I really despise the scale. While I do think checking body weight every now and then is a good thing, letting it dictate our self-worth is definitely NOT. Put it this way…does the number on the scale change who are you as a person? Does it make you any less caring or loving? And vice versa, does it make your loved ones care or love you less? Hopefully you answered no to those questions. If not, then we have some more work to do – we’ll save that for another post :-).

TO DO: Throw away the scale (or at least put it in the back of a little-used closet). Then, first thing in the morning turn to the mirror and say aloud three things that you love about yourself.

Let me know how it goes!

Love,

Tara

Love this! And is so true! So many people measure their self worth with those numbers that come up on the scale! When you are good on the inside, it makes work on the outside easier.
    Thanks for sharing this reminder!
